So Much Choice In Garden Designs

The area of garden design has really come into it's own in recent times. It can get confusing with so much on the market to choose from. Hopefully some of the confusion will be cleared up here. Start with the basics and so much will fall into place.

The Many Styles Of Garden Design

When it comes right down to it, there is the formal garden design and the informal garden design. While there are many styles in both these designs, elements of the formal design will have structure, the informal garden design will be almost casual in appearance but every plant, path and ornament will have been placed with a definite design in mind. Often times it is harder to design an informal garden than the formal type garden.

Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beholder

All gardens are meant to be enjoyed and so the design should be pleasing to the eye. A person who likes traditional styles would lean more to the formal garden designs, those liking all things modern will probably go for the minimalist, non-fussy style with maybe sculptures to enhance. The cottage garden design is more suited to the romantic and practical people will lean towards the informal, low maintenance design with clever planting, pathways that lead to somewhere, not much in the way of lawns and a herb and vegetable garden.

Practical Garden Design Can Be Incorporated Too

If you like the very modern style garden but still want to have your herbs and vegetables growing, the ideal answer is to set aside an area that can be screened off this is also a good area to include the utilities. This could all be set up nicely and become a wonderful retreat for the vegie gardener.

Catering For More Than One Style, Use Garden Rooms

While we are all different and this is good, when it comes to a garden design that has to be shared, this can be a problem as to what style of garden design. Why not use the 'room' garden design. That is, create areas/rooms in the style of design you like. You each have your own garden rooms.

Compliment The Buildings

Remember to always make sure your garden design compliments your home. A very modern home will not sit right in a very cottage style garden nor would a modern Mexican style design garden fit well into the yard of a traditional 19th century home.

Do Your Homework

If you are unsure, do a little searching on the Internet or visit your local library or bookstore. You will get some wonderful ideas and there are even garden design software programs to help you put it all together.

When you go to the trouble of designing your garden, make sure it has all the elements you want, so you will be able to enjoy it.
